Michelle’s Harp Studio

Joining the harp world is exciting, educational and probably overwhelming. Don’t hesitate to call Michelle for questions on all things harp.

  • New Students

From childhood to retirement, all ages are welcome into Michelle’s harp studio. Weekly lessons are offered in her home in Alpine, Utah, on her harps. No musical experience is required, although a background in piano can greatly help. Michelle teaches a traditional method with Suzuki repertoire intermixed. Tuition is $25 for 30 minute lessons. Students will participate in yearly solo and ensemble recitals. The journey of learning an instrument is exciting, enriching, and oh so enjoyable! Feel free to contact for a meet and greet.

  • Lesson Ettiquette

Tuition is due the first week of each month. A late fee of $10 will be added thereafter. All cancellations must be received at least 2 hours in advance except for emergencies, otherwise, there is no refund. Music and notebook must be brought to each lesson, as well as well-trimmed nails!

  • Harps

Students need a harp at home to practice. There are basically three options: a lap, lever or pedal harp. Lap harps are the smallest with an average of 18 strings. Many people sing while strumming simple tunes on a lap harp. Lever harps average 36 strings. At the top of each string sits a lever with two positions. Players can lift or lower these levers to raise or lower the string’s pitch. These harps are great for beginners. Pedal harps usually have 47 strings. They have seven pedals at the base of the harp for the players feet to press or release if they need sharps or flats.
